After Olives, Todd English joins a one-night rock opera

Celebrity chef Todd English has joined the cast of a rock opera. Really. He’ll perform with “Twilight” actor Chaske Spencer, drag performer Flotilla DeBarge, and writer Michael Musto in “The Life + Death of Kenyon Phillips,” a project by and about actor-singer-model-dancer Phillips whom Musto once called “the love child of Luther Vandross and Steven Tyler.” (We assume that’s a compliment.) The show goes on at Joe’s Pub in New York on May 2. It’s been a busy few weeks for English, whose New York City location of Olives was just taken over by the Gerber Group. English’s Boston location of Olives, the restaurant that launched his career, closed last year.
