There were a lot of smiling faces at the Boston Scholar Athletes Gala at the Agganis Arena this week. Created in 2009, the BSA aims to improve academic achievement through athletics in Boston public high schools. Some students received offers of full college scholarships, which they accepted gleefully. But some seemed just as excited to take selfies with former mayor Tom Menino, who joined Boston Scholar Athletes founder John Fish of Suffolk Construction, executive director Bekah Splaine Salwasser, Mayor Marty Walsh, BSA supporters Steve and Roberta Weiner, Brigham and Women’s Hospital president Betsy Nabel, Partners Healthcare CEO Gary Gottlieb, and Natixis chief John Hailer.
