Wes Welker not inclined to return Derby dough

Wes Wel ker may be regretting his decision to dole out $100 bills to passersby after California Chrome won the Kentucky Derby. A Churchill Downs spokesman said Welker or a member of his group was the beneficiary of a $$14,858 “overpayment,” and the venerable race track would like the money returned. The Broncos receiver, who was a regular at the Derby during his playing days with the Patriots, was spotted handing out $100 bills after California Chrome crossed the finish line first. Appearing afterward on “The Dan Patrick Show,” Welker declined to reveal how much he won on his wager. “You name the bet, I pretty much had it,” he said. “Enough to where my wife didn’t hate me when I got home...Why do we have to go into numbers? It was a good time.” Asked about the alleged overpayment, Welker seemed entirely unconcerned. “They could have underpaid us and we wouldn’t have known,” he said. And it doesn’t sound like he’s planning to give the money back. Told by Patrick that Churchill Downs wants it, Welker said, “Yeah, well, get in line.”
