Move over Snooki. The Boston Symphony Orchestra is launching a reality series that, we hope at least, will be smarter and more civilized than “Jersey Shore.” Called “New Tanglewood Tales: Backstage With Rising Artists,” the Web series will spotlight the professional and personal lives of six fellows from the 2014 class of the Tanglewood Music Center, the BSO’s summer music academy in the Berkshires. We’re guessing the focus will be less on drinking games and six-pack abs and more on the challenges faced by musicians as they pursue a place in the competitive world of classical music. (“New Tanglewood Tales” is an eight-week series, available weekly starting in July at www.tanglewood
The featured fellows include Karina Canellakis (conductor); Jeffrey DeRoche (percussion); Conor McDonald (baritone); Clare Elizabeth Monfredo (cello); Masha Popova (flute); and Jacob Shack (viola). “New Tanglewood Tales” is being directed by Susan Dangel, whose credits include the TV movie “America’s Orchestra: Celebrating 125 Years of the Boston Pops,” an episode of “Nova,” and the documentary “The Best of Masterpiece Theatre.”
