Johnny Depp (right) as Whitey Bulger, says hello to his double on the set of “Black Mass,” the movie being made about mobster Whitey Bulger

Filming of the movie based on the Whitey Bulger book “Black Mass” continued Thursday at a house on Broadway in South Boston, and there were a few new faces on the set. We got our first glimpse of Julianne Nicholson, the Medford-bred actress who’s playing Marianne Connolly, wife of corrupt former FBI agent John Connolly. (Actor Joel Edgerton, who plays Connolly, was also there, keeping cool under an umbrella between takes.) Others on set in the morning included David Harbour, the actor playing John Morris, the corrupt FBI supervisor who was Bulger’s handler, Rory Cochrane, who plays Stephen Flemmi, Johnny Depp, who plays the South Boston mobster, and, of course, director Scott Cooper. (During a break in filming, there was a nice moment when Depp and his double greeted each other outside the house.) The scene being shot was a barbecue at Connolly’s house attended by Bulger and his henchman Flemmi.
