Unlike the last time, this weekend’s screening of director Joe Berlinger’s documentary “Whitey: United States of America V. James J. Bulger ” was a subdued affair. In January, you will recall, the film chronicling the trial of South Boston mobster Whitey Bulger was screened at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, and some who watched it complained that Berlinger is wrong to even entertain the notion that Bulger wasn’t an FBI informant. Following Friday’s screening at the Kendall Square Cinema, Berlinger hosted a mostly peaceful panel discussion that included Bulger lawyer J.W. Carney Jr.; Steve Davis and Tommy Donahue, family members of Bulger victims; and WBUR’s David Boeri.
