Just like that, magician Ivan Amodei will appear in Boston this weekend, bringing his illusions to the Park Plaza for shows Saturday and Sunday. It’s a rare local date for Amodei, who can be found most weekends performing at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in LA. He calls his show “Intimate Illusions,” but there’s nothing particularly untoward. It’s about the setting: A cellist provides the soundtrack and there are none of the showgirls or white tigers of a Vegas spectacle. “This is more brain games, mind games, psychological illusions, but on a smaller level where you don’t need to have the huge stage and smoke and mirrors,’’ he said. And then there’s Amodei’s vibe, which is decidedly upbeat, not dark, like, say, illusionist Criss Angel. “I’m not there to say, ‘Hey, I fooled you. You couldn’t figure me out.’ ’’ he said. “I don’t think an audience wants to feel like it’s being fooled, I think an audience wants to be inspired.”
