The Internet would have you believe that the Whitey Bulger movie has wrapped. Not true. We’re told director Scott Cooper still has two weeks of work remaining on the biopic based on “Black Mass,” the book by Dick Lehr and Gerry O’Neill. What is true is that Johnny Depp, who stars as the South Boston mobster, has finished his part in the film. Depp’s last scene, shot Monday in Lynn, involved Bulger getting out of a car and viciously beating a drug dealer with a wrench. It was a quick scene and when it was over, the cast and crew paused to give Depp a group hug — OK, it was a round of applause — for his work on the movie. (The actor’s fiance, Amber Heard, was on set to enjoy the moment.) The final two weeks of filming will take place in Boston and focus on the FBI’s role in the Bulger story. We’re sorry to see Depp depart Boston. When he wasn’t busy filming, the actor could be found browsing the stacks at the Brattle Book Shop, picking up a pie at Regina Pizzeria, or playing guitar on stage withWillie Nelsonor Aerosmith. Depp’s appearance with the Bad Boys from Boston at the Xfinity Center was preceded, we’re told, by a visit to the “Black Mass” set by Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry and his wife Billie. It makes sense then that the actor would return the favor, dropping by while the rockers were doing their job.
