Audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival were apparently moved by the made-in-Massachusetts legal drama “The Judge,” which stars Robert Downey Jr., Robert Duvall, Vera Farmiga, and Vincent D’Onofrio. The movie, largely filmed in Dedham and Shelburne Falls (which was re-created as the fictional town of Carlinville), “The Judge” is being mentioned as an Oscar contender. (Although the crowd in Toronto liked it, the opinion of critics is mixed, with some complaining it moves too slowly.) “The Judge,” directed by David Dobkin, tells the story of a dysfunctional relationship between a lawyer, played by Downey Jr., and a judge, played by Duvall, who’s accused of murder. Duvall’s character also has cancer, making the narrative even weepier. The film hits theaters next month.
