Taking a page from the Red Sox playbook, the Boston Symphony Orchestra is lining up acts to play at Tanglewood when the BSO isn’t performing this summer. In the same way the Red Sox schedule more and more concerts at Fenway while the team is on the road, the BSO is booking a lot of shows at the Koussevitzky Music Shed this summer. Two more were announced this morning: Diana Ross will perform Aug. 30 (with her daughter Rhonda Ross opening) and Melissa Etheridge will join Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops for a season-closing show Sept. 3. Already announced as part of Tanglewood’s Popular Artist Series are “Four Voices,” featuring Joan Baez, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Amy Ray, and Emily Saliers; Boz Scaggs and Michael McDonald; John Mellencamp with Emmylou Harris and Carlene Carter; Natalie Merchant; James Taylor; humorist David Sedaris, and The Avett Brothers.
