In a revealing interview with Time.com Wednesday, President Trump didn’t walk back or otherwise correct any of the past statements he’s made that have been widely discredited: not the claim that 3 million undocumented people voted in November’s presidential election; not the claim that Muslims in New Jersey celebrated on 9/11; not his comment that Ted Cruz’s father was with Lee Harvey Oswald in 1963; and not his tweet that former President Obama wiretapped Trump Tower.
And the idea that many Americans now wonder if they can believe anything the leader of the free world says doesn’t seem to bother the president. Indeed, asked if he has any concerns about his credibility, Trump channeled his inner Chevy Chase, who used to open the “Weekend Update” segment on “Saturday Night Live” with the catchphrase “I’m Chevy Chase . . . and you’re not.”

In the interview with Time.com, Trump said he’s not worried what people think, adding “Hey look, in the meantime, I guess, I can’t be doing so badly, because I’m president, and you’re not.”
