While young’uns are rejoicing that Taylor Swift’s North American tour will make a stop next summer at Gillette Stadium, fogier music fans here may be disappointed to learn that ELO’s first US tour in 30 years does not include a Boston date.

Jeff Lynne is taking the spectacle known as the Electric Light Orchestra on the road next August, but the closest that the string section is coming to a venue near you is New York’s Madison Square Garden. And that’s a shame because what self-respecting music snob wouldn’t want to see Lynne play his peculiar Beatles-meets-Beethoven arrangements all these years later. ELO’s first US shows since 1981 kick off Aug. 2 in Oakland and end Aug. 24 in Philadelphia.

“Our audiences are amazing. It’s like they’re in the group. We can’t wait to play for them again,” Lynne said in a statement.
