Kevin Bacon is returning to Boston.
The actor, who appeared in the local movies “Patriots Day,” “Black Mass,” “R.I.P.D.,” and “Mystic River,” has signed up to headline “City on the Hill,” the Showtime pilot produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
Deadline and Variety reported Monday that Bacon will star in the project with actor Aldis Hodge, of “Straight Outta Compton” and “Turn: Washington’s Spies.” Filming should start soon; Boston Casting put out a note last week seeking cars from the 1970s to 1990s for the shoot.
“City on a Hill” is based on the “Boston Miracle” — when civil leaders helped law enforcement officers reduce street crime in the 1990s. Chuck MacLean is the writer on the pilot. Variety says Bacon has also signed on to be a co-executive producer.
