The Concord Museum has announced that at the end of February Margaret Burke will be retiring as executive director. Burke, who holds a doctorate in art history from the University of Delaware, has headed the museum since 2011. During that time, she helped raise $12.5 million for a museum expansion that’s currently underway and doubled the museum’s student visitorship.
Before coming to Concord, the Marblehead native worked as director of foundation development at WGBH, curator at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, director of what is now Historic New England, and executive director of the Maryland Humanities Council.
Her husband, Dennis FIori, recently retired as head of the Massachusetts Historical Society. From 1982-94, he headed the Concord Museum.
