Perhaps because advertisers were beginning to pull their ads, Fox News host Laura Ingraham has apologized for calling teenager David Hogg, a survivor of the Parkland, Fla., shooting, a “whiny” high schooler.

Ingraham tweeted the apology Thursday after Hogg’s call for a boycott of companies that advertise on Ingraham’s show seemed to be gaining momentum. The pet-food maker Nutrish and TripAdvisor had said they were pulling their ads.

It all started with an interview Hogg did with TMZ, during which he expressed disappointment about rejection letters he’d received from some California colleges. That prompted conservatives to troll him, notably Ingraham, who tweeted:

That didn’t sit well with people of both political parties, including actor Chris Evans, the left-leaning “Captain America” star whose uncle is Congressman Michael Capuano. Evans spoke for a lot of people when he tweeted:

Hogg responded to Ingraham’s taunt by calling for a boycott of companies that advertise on her Fox News show.

When companies began to bail, Ingraham tweeted an apology.
