Comedian Nick Di Paolo, the Danvers native known for his right-wing rants, has been fired by SiriusXM.

In a tweet to his 101,000 followers, Di Paolo said he was let go by the satellite radio network for what he called a “a poorly worded tweet.” The two-hour “Nick Di Paolo Show” had aired Monday through Thursday on SiriusXM’s Faction Talk channel.

“Hey Guys, Yes it’s true, @SIRIUSXM fired me for a poorly worded tweet, that warranted suspension at best,” Di Paolo tweeted. “In my opinion, it’s a total overreaction on their part, but these are the times we live in. Don’t worry I will resurface soon. Thx for all your support!”

The tweet that upset the bosses at SiriusXM has since been deleted by Di Paolo, but there’s a screenshot of it online. Posted last Friday, the tweet read: “Dear future school shooter, please confine yourself to coll. campuses, specifically faculty lounges at Berkeley, Fresno State etc.”

Perhaps realizing that Friday was the 19th anniversary of the Columbine shooting and National Walkout Day for students protesting gun violence, Di Paolo deleted the tweet within hours of posting it.

SiriusXM rep Patrick Reilly would not comment on the specific tweet, but e-mailed us the tersest of statements: “We have parted ways with Nick.”

Di Paolo, who said in a recent interview that his “Nick Is Right” comedy tour includes a lot of jokes about Hillary Clinton “and how much I hate her,” has made a habit of making statements many consider politically incorrect — or downright offensive. And sometimes it has gotten him into trouble.

At the 2016 “Comics Come Home” fund-raiser at TD Garden, Di Paolo angered some with a joke about the cobblestone streets of Faneuil Hall being designed “by a rapist” because women get their high heels stuck, leaving them open to predators. He also called a woman who complained about his set an “angry Jew from Peabody.”

A fixture on the Boston comedy scene for years, Di Paolo is good pals with Denis Leary and Louis CK. (CK, who’s from Newton, lost TV and movie deals after being accused of sexual misconduct by several women, and later admitting the stories were true.)

Comedian Artie Lange reacted to Di Paolo’s abrupt departure from SiriusXM, tweeting: “Sirius fired @NickDiPaolo . I’ve been in comedy for 31 yrs & I feel DiPaolo is the funniest guy I’ve ever known. His comic minds in its own league.” (The rest of the tweet is too profane to publish.)
