As you might expect, Lindsay Shookus, the “Saturday Night Live” producer who’s been dating Ben Affleck since the actor’s marriage to Jennifer Garner ended, isn’t much interested in talking about her relationship with the Oscar winner.

In an interview in the new issue of Elle, Shookus politely declines to dish on her romance with Affleck, saying: “My entire career has been behind the camera, and that’s definitely where I’m most comfortable. I’m a producer, I’m a mom, a friend. Being considered a public figure honestly makes me laugh.”

Instead, the 37-year-old Shookus talks about the trajectory of her career, which began not long after she graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002 with a gig in the talent department at “SNL.” She worked — and worked hard — under longtime “SNL” producer Marci Klein, volunteering to do every and any job that needed to be done. In 2005, Shookus watched Kristen Wiig’s audition tape, and suggested to her boss that the unknown comedian might be right for the show. Um, yeah.

“Auditioning for ‘SNL’ is a very nerve-racking experience, and Lindsay and I clicked,” Wiig says in the story. “She kind of talked me down a little bit — I was very nervous. She was with me through the whole process; I’ll never forget that.”

Wiig and Shookus have since become besties.

“Lindsay is fun to get a drink with and is also one of the better dancers I know,” Wiig says.

British singer Sam Smith likewise credits Shookus for launching his career in the US. Shookus had seen Smith perform at South by Southwest and booked him on the show in 2014 — before his album had come out in the states.

“Honestly, it changed my life. And I’m not just saying that,” Smith told Elle. “For me, SNL is a safe space. Lindsay is that safe space. I’ll never forget her taking a chance on me in that moment.”

Shookus, who was first photographed with Affleck in early 2017, is divorced from Kevin Miller. But the couple, who have a 5-year-old daughter, are apparently on OK terms these days because Shookus threw her ex a 40th birthday party.
