Lisa Birnbach wrote the book(s) on the preppy lifestyle

Lisa Birnbach is the poster child for preppiness. In fact, she wrote the book on it. Over 30 years later, the author of “The Official Preppy Handbook’’ penned a second “prep’’ manual, “True Prep: It’s a Whole New Old World,’’ now out in paperback. Birnbach, a New York native, will be in Boston for two appearances on Monday, Nov. 21: North River Outfitters at 126 Charles St. at 4 p.m., and The Roxbury Latin School, the nation’s oldest preparatory school, for a talk and signing at 7:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.
