Shira Sternberg carries work her mother started with National Breast Cancer Coalition

Who: Shira Sternberg. What: The 29-year-old Boston resident is a special assistant at the Environmental Protection Agency and a volunteer Emerging Leaders Liaison at the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC). Sternberg’s mother, Patricia Barr, helped found the NBCC in 1991. The organization, which wrapped up its annual Summit in Washington, D.C., last week, is pushing Congress to accelerate breast cancer research, with a goal of eradicating the disease by 2020.
