6 heat-wave-friendly fragrances for summer

While we’re still clearing out winter’s musks and spring’s florals, we’ve begun searching for the perfect summertime scent that will prove to be a lasting favorite. We’ve sniffed enough cloying tropical disasters and citrus body sprays to know what works in a heat wave-friendly fragrance. Here are six favorites that all feature summertime scent must-haves: each is brisk and lightweight and addictively wearable.

Almond Coconut Milk Eau de Toilette by Laura Mercier

A sophisticated, sensual blend of familiar tropical scents like coconut pulp, tonka bean, and jasmine that spritzes on like a light veil of fragrance, not a sugar-spun mosquito net. $50 for 1.7 oz. available at Laura
Mercier.com, at Macy’s stores, and at www.macys.com.

Burberry Body Mist

The limited-edition version of the British label’s latest scent is the perfect way to survive the summer heat. This sunny version of the powerful woodsy fragrance plays up its greener, brighter notes of absinthe, peach, and freesia. $50 for 2.8 oz of Eau de Parfum mist available at Sephora locations, www.
sephora.com, Burberry stores, and at us.burberry.com.

Kiehl’s Orange Flower and Lychee Aromatic Blend fragrance

This new line from Kiehl’s includes four glorious fragrances, each featuring two singular scents for a heady perfume experience. Our favorite is Orange Flower and Lychee, a sweet but not sticky citrus with delicate floral notes. $75 for 3.4 oz. at Kiehl’s at 112 Newbury St. and www.kiehls.com.

Marc Jacobs Hibiscus Eau de Toilette

This feminine floral blend (thankfully) lacks the powdery scent of most fragrances in its field. Sparkling tropical notes and the subtle sweetness of pink peonies and hibiscus make this splashable scent a favorite for daytime dates and night moves. $49 for 3.4 oz. at Marc Jacobs at 81 Newbury St. and www.marcjacobs.com

Citron de Vigne Eau de Parfum from Fresh

A standout addition to the Fresh fragrance family, Citron de Vigne was inspired by Veuve Clicquot’s vintage La Grande Dame Champagne. A fizzy citrus with notes of pink grapefruit and bitter orange comes to mellow finish with lemongrass, patchouli, and sandalwood. The perfect scent for starlit summer soirees. $38 for 1 oz. at 121 Newbury St. and www.fresh.com.

Bath & Body Works Malibu Heat Fine Fragrance Mist

We have to admit that this fragrance makes us salivate just a bit. Packed with juicy top notes of orange, pear, and pineapple, balanced with vanilla and musk, this super affordable fragrance keeps things light with an extra-fine mist. Sweet. $14 for 8 oz. at Bath & Body Works stores and www.bathandbodyworks.com.
