If you watch CBS’s national broadcast of Boston’s Fourth of July celebration Wednesday night, what you see is what you will get.
Last year’s televised event was criticized by viewers and ethicists because images of historic buildings around the city had been inserted into the fireworks video feed, making it appear that the rockets glared red and bombs burst in the air above the gold-domed State House on Beacon Hill, the area behind home plate at Fenway Park, and Quincy Market, among other places.

Fireworks are the best.
Thank God they won't be doing that again. Artistically they were OK in an abstract sense but in the case of the Boston Fireworks display, pure is better!

Agreed! I forgot about all of that. I wonder if Mugar or Koch can scrounge up enough friends with funds to pay for that air time? That has to be a ton of $$.
If you're reading this Mr. Mugar, while you're getting rid of the superimposed locations, could you also get rid of the horrible soundtrack that CBS uses during the fireworks display? When local TV aired this event, it was a great concert that lead into the fireworks, and we could see the segue, hear the cannons, and the explosions. Just like being there! And it was hosted by local personalities, who knew what they were talking about, hosting. Now it's awful hosts who also seem superimposed. Frankly, last year was so awful, I changed channels to watch the NYC celebration, which is something I thought I'd never do. Honestly, the national broadcast made me think, "Such a shame the nation isn't see the real magic of this." You might make more $$$ through CBS, Mr. Mugar, but you're ruining your show.
We ( 5-6 friends ) go to the Memorial Drive side of the Chales every year. We've been doing that fo 20 years and we get great seating, our own chairs across from the barge. Last year friends in Boston watching on TV called us and told of the geographic anomalies as they were viewing the fireworks. For shame many commented. Mugar has promised not to do the Tourist Attraction Two-step this year but said nothing about a Hologram Hosting by Arthur Fiedler.
