Lohan has her next role

New role for Lohan

Amid ongoing legal issues, a recent car crash and run-in with paramedics, Lindsay Lohan has secured her next movie role. Producer Braxton Pope says Lohan will star in ‘‘The Canyons,’’ a film by ‘‘Less Than Zero’’ author Bret Easton Ellis about sex and ambition among 20-somethings in Los Angeles. Paul Schrader, who wrote ‘‘Taxi Driver’’ and directed ‘‘American Gigolo,’’ is set to direct the film. Lohan’s publicist, Steve Honig, confirmed Wednesday that the 26-year-old actress had been cast in ‘‘The Canyons’’ and added that she has been on set since last week. (AP)

Mariah may join ‘Idol’

‘‘American Idol’’ may be getting a worldwide idol as a judge — Mariah Carey. A person familiar with the show’s negotiations says Carey is being pursued to join the judging panel of the Fox talent competition. The source requested anonymity because of the private nature of negotiations, which were termed as serious. Carey has also been courted by other talent competitions, and her name has been thrown out in the past for ‘‘Idol’’ and other shows. There are two openings: Both Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler announced last week that they were leaving as judges. Randy Jackson, who is a manager, producer, and friend of Carey’s, is the only judge left. Meanwhile, could Charlie Sheen be a judge on ‘‘American Idol”? The actor says he’s game. In an interview on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, Sheen said ‘‘Idol’’ producer Nigel Lythgoe publicly threw his name out there as a possible judge and the idea piqued people’s interest — including his own. ‘‘It seems so out of the blue that it almost made perfect sense,’’ he said. Berry injured on set

Halle Berry suffered a minor head injury during a movie-shoot fight sequence and was treated at a Los Angeles hospital and released. Berry’s Los Angeles publicist Meredith O’Sullivan said the 45-year-old actress suffered the injury Tuesday night on the set of her upcoming movie ‘‘The Hive.’’ Berry was taken to a hospital as a precaution and released a short time later. O’Sullivan said the Oscar-winning actress will continue work on the film. (AP)
