Fall clearance sale on at Wheelworks

GEARED UP FOR SAVINGS

Wheelworks is running a fall clearance sale on most 2012 bicycles. When we stopped in at the Belmont store, many road, mountain, and hybrid bikes from Trek, Specialized, and others were around 10-20 percent off; a few older models were marked down more steeply. The sale is ongoing; no end date has been set. Wheelworks is at 480 Trapelo Road, Belmont, 617-489-3577 and 145 Elm St., Somerville, 617-776-2100 (Ace Wheelworks). www.wheelworks.com

BIDDING ON BARGAINS

The Emerson College Alumni Association Scholarship Auction is running through Nov. 30, with restaurant gift cards, jewelry, signed sports memorabilia, getaways, and some truly unexpected items and experiences up for bid. (We place lunch with Larry David and a set visit to TLC’s “What Not to Wear” in the latter category.) The auction is also a chance to find good deals — the leading bids for many items were significantly below retail value when we checked, and a good number of items have sold for less than retail value in past years. All proceeds go to scholarships for Emerson students. See www.biddingforgood.com/emerson.
