The allure of the statistics field grows

Throughout history, “statistician” has not typically been one of the sexier job titles. But now — thanks in part to Nate Silver, who correctly predicted the presidential election — that may be changing.

Although he’s yet to hear anyone use “Wanna go home and crunch some numbers?” as a pickup line, MIT professor Erik Brynjolfsson says the field’s allure is growing.

If he hasn't already, Nate Silver should first compute the probability that climate scientists are right about global warming. Then based on their research he should computer whether we are already past the tipping point and face doom. And finally he compute the probability of more intelligent beings coming from other planets to save us.

For kicks, he should compute the probabilty of other superstorms destroying metropolises like New York.

Then maybe something would be done about it. This is your moment, Nate Silver! Grab it and save the world!
