Downtown Reading’s annual “Shop the Block” event happens Thursday from 5-9 p.m., with discounts and treats at many businesses. (Look for the red bows marking those participating.) Among the deals, Everything But the Dog (2 Haven St. #101, Reading, 781-944-5300, www.everythingbutthedog.net) will have markdowns on holiday clothing, collars, and gift cards; Salon Fabiano (159 Ash St., Reading, 781-944-0524, www.salonfabianoltd.com) will take 10 percent off gift certificates and hair care products; and Atlantic Framing and Gifts (78 Haven St., Reading, 781-944-4169, www.atlanticframing.com) will give a gift with any $50 purchase, while supplies last. The Concord Free Public Library hosts a holiday book sale tomorrow through Sunday in its main lobby. Thousands of gently used hardcover and paperback books in just about all categories will sell for around $1-$10. The selection will be replenished throughout the sale (so you don’t need to worry if you don’t get there Friday morning). Proceeds will benefit library programs and parts of the collections.
