Dozens of top designers will parade their Spring/Summer 2014 designs down the catwalk for the spectacle known as New York Fashion Week beginning Sept. 5. Celebrities, editors, bloggers, and savvy gate crashers will get an up-close look at what women will be wearing next summer (at least those women with the income, daring, and willowy physique necessary to pull off these looks). Before designers send their clothes down the runway, they devour films, read books, travel, and ruminate until inspiration hits and the sketching begins. We asked some of the biggest designers showing at Fashion Week to share their inspirations — and sketches — for a preview of what’s in store.
“My Spring 2014 collection is primarily inspired by a recent trip to Mexico’s Isla Mujeres: the ‘Island of Women.’ I took influence from the shapes and imagery of grass-lined huts, picturesque color-blocked residential streets, stonework, and the locally abundant dahlia.”
