The final four years of Vincent van Gogh’s life were a time of artistic and personal tumult. The 40 paintings in this Philadelphia Museum of Art exhibition focus on that period. Moving from Antwerpto Paris, he absorbed significant new influences - Impression, Pointillism, Japanese - before moving again, to Arles, in the south of France. There he perfected his vivid, expressionist style, communicating on canvas an unprecedented sense of emotional engagement with nature.
