In 1997 my husband, Mark, and I spent our honeymoon working with disabled children as part of a two-week Global Volunteer project in Ecuador. This small South American country offers the Amazon basin, the Andes, the Galapagos Islands, and a chance to straddle two hemispheres on the equator itself, but it is often bypassed by families looking for an accessible overseas adventure.
