Monemvasia
A former Byzantine fortress on a high plateau above a
restored Byzantine village, all of it on a small peninsula off the east coast of the Peloponnese. A day trip or stay overnight in the town. No cars in this intimate village, lots of restaurants and gift shops. Walk up to the fortress for breathtaking views.

An island just a one- to two-hour ferry trip from Athens,
or half an hour from Poros. There are no cars. Take a
donkey ride. Walk along the coastal path from the main port to the next village. Good food along the way.
