Ballard Street Market

Looking for a little local flavor? There’s no better place for it than the Ballard Street Market. Seattle’s historic, tree-lined avenue is closed to motor traffic every Sunday, year-round, when hundreds of local vendors set up temporary shop. The lively Euro-style marketplace draws crowds young and old, coming to buy local goods, eat tasty street food, and soak up the carnival-like atmosphere. There are cooking demonstrations, musicians, and street performers mixed among merchants lining the avenue with overflowing, colorful bins of just-picked fruit and produce. There are icy buckets of fresh-caught seafood, baskets of breads and pastries, poultry, eggs, artisan cheeses, foraged mushrooms and greens, honey and preserves. The market stays open — in any weather — 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  206-781-6777, www.fremontmarket.com
