SUNDAY’S CHILD

Sunday’s Child is Lisha, 13

Hi! My name is Lisha. I am bilingual and I am a terrific singer.

Lisha, 13, is from the Dominican Republic and though she learned to speak English only six years ago, one would never know. She speaks Spanish and English fluently and continues to strengthen her reading skills.

Friendly and kind, Lisha considers herself “easy to talk to.” She loves to sing and socialize with her friends. Lisha likes to please others and puts others’ needs before her own, but she is working to be more assertive and to advocate for herself.

In school, Lisha does well and receives reading and language support. She enjoys reading and is building her confidence to read aloud in class. She aspires to college.

Lisha is doing well in her foster home where she is very attached to her foster sister. Lisha’s worker believes she would fare best in a home with children either several years younger or older than she, and that, additionally, Lisha would do best in a single-female or two-parent home. Lisha hopes to find a family “who will love me forever and be kind to me.”

If she could have her own special wish, Lisha would like to pursue singing as a career.

November is National Adoption Month

Celebrate by helping to spread the word about adoption from foster care. The Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange has started using video snapshots as a way of helping children find homes. Volunteer videographers capture a child’s personality on camera, through interviews and interactions, which can then help to spark a potential family’s interest in a particular child. Visit our website at www.mareinc
.org/video-snapshots.html
to view some of these amazing snapshots, including Lisha’s.

For more information about Lisha, or if you or someone you know would like to volunteer as a videographer for this project, contact MARE at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or at www.mareinc.org.
