YALE’S NEW GALLERIES AND MASTERPIECES

Yale University Art Gallery celebrates the completion of a multi-year renovation and expansion with a ribbon-cutting Dec. 12 at noon at the New Haven campus. The $135 million project has boosted exhibition space by nearly one-third, now offering nearly 70,000 square feet of space in three buildings. Wander through galleries devoted to African, Asian, and Pre-Columbian art, which are located in the 1953 modernist building designed by Louis Kahn, and the galleries of ancient, European, and contemporary art, in the Old Yale Art Gallery. See more than 1,100 new acquisitions, including African terra-cotta figures, Greco-Roman coins, medals from the American Revolution, and marble portraits of Marcus Aurelius and Plato dating more than 1,700 years. Free admission.  203-432-0600, www.artgallery.yale.edu
