Inn at Scituate Harbor

KJELD MAHONEY

SCITUATE — Sipping a spiced cranberry martini while comfortably ensconced in a plush leather chair before a fire and reading a book or nibbling a calzone is not a bad way to spend a chilly night about a half-hour from Boston.

That’s the scene at The Dogwatch, the bar at The Inn at Scituate Harbor, a 29-room alternative to staying in town. All nautical-design rooms have harbor views, affording guests some spectacular sunrises. There is an indoor pool, Wi-Fi throughout, and year-round entertainment that includes live music, trivia contests with a local twist, psychic readings, and sports on a 60-inch flat-screen TV. A short walk away are shops, pubs, and restaurants, all on the water, giving the harbor a Cape Cod feel.

The Inn at Scituate Harbor
 7 Beaver Dam Road, 781-545-5550, www.innatscituate.com, rates from $125.
