Newbury Guest House

Charmingly low-key, the Newbury Guest House is a stone's throw from Boston's splashiest boutiques, but — surprise — it is one of the city's best lodgings values. So if you need a comfy place to send out-of-town guests, or simply want to soak up Newbury Street's festive ambience yourself, take a closer look at this bed-and-breakfast inn.

Located between Fairfield and Gloucester streets, the 1882 row house offers 32 guest rooms set within three red brick-and-brownstone buildings. Four types of accommodations are available, from a standard room with a queen bed (great for the budget traveler) to the most expensive "luxury bay window king." The rooms aren't huge, given that these are 19th-century buildings, but they're done up nicely, with modern furnishings and a soothing palette. Some rooms have the original (decorative) fireplaces and medallion ceilings; each has complimentary Wi-Fi and a 37-inch flat-screen TV. A hot breakfast is included in the rate, plus, room service is available from the creperie (operated by the same owners) next door. There's overnight parking on site. It will set you back $20, a bargain on Newbury Street.
