Sunday Morning

London Speakers’ Corner, Hyde Park

Every Sunday morning since the right of free assembly was recognized in 1872 in the Royal Parks and Gardens Act, people from all walks of life have gathered at Speakers’ Corner in London’s Hyde Park to partake in a uniquely theatrical forum for free public speech.

While Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, and George Orwell used this spot to express their opinions and ideals, today’s average speaker is generally lower profile, which is not to say they are any less passionate than their well-known predecessors. Speakers lecture about everything from the absurdity of society to the benefits of Sunday trading, from creationism to Islamism.
