The riding was easy and the scenery sublime as the DiNardo family traveled 400 miles from Montreal to Boston.
On day 5, the family ate at the Moon Dog Cafe in Chester, Vt., which offers a juice bar, vegan soups, and salads.

Middlebury, Vt., was the last stop before the family traveled Brandon Gap in the Green Mountain National Forest.
Daughter Laura celebrated the climb to the summit, the biggest challenge of the trip.
The effects from Hurricane Irene were still visible along the route.
The trip's last day was supposed to take two, but the family voted to make one final push for Brattleboro.
No long-distance bike ride is complete without ice cream. The family enjoyed the trip's final meal at Kimball Farm in Westford.
