A US passport or passport card is required for the border crossing. The only direct access from the US mainland is by the Franklin D. Roosevelt International Bridge from Lubec, Maine. A two-stage car ferry connects Eastport with Deer Isle, Maine, and Campobello, New Brunswick. New Brunswick Tourism staffs an information center on Campobello, just after the bridge; check here for tide information. Campobello Island is on Atlantic Daylight Time (ADT), which is one hour ahead of Eastern Daylight Time.
The grounds and natural areas of Roosevelt Campobello International Park (877-851-6663, www.fdr.net) are open daily, year round, from one-half hour before sunrise to a half-hour after sunset. The visitors center and Roosevelt Cottage are open 10 a.m.-
6 p.m. ADT from late May through mid-October. Admission is free. Tea With Eleanor is offered at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. ADT daily on a first come, first served basis, but tickets can be picked up at the visitors center on the day of the tea; there is no fee. This season, a marine biology exhibit drawing from the New England Aquarium and Canadian Whale Institute will be on view in the fishing shed at Mulholland Light, which is also owned by the park.
Head Harbor Lighthouse (sometimes called East Quoddy Head) is accessible two hours before and two hours after dead low tide. Requested donation to hike to the lighthouse is $5 per person. Lighthouse and tower tours are available for $10 per person or $25 per family. Donations support restoration efforts.
