Spotify songs for nervous travelers

The music-streaming service Spotify commissioned a study to find out what type of music best calms nervous travelers. Conducted by anxiety psychologist Becky Spelman, it reveals that breathing in time to music with a slow tempo — ideally 60 beats per minute — at a controlled pace lowers heart rate and blood pressure, which in turn reduces anxiety. Listening to harmonious and emotional tracks stimulates both sides of the brain, calming and relaxing the mind and the body. A Spotify playlist, curated by Spelman, features 15 songs across various genres — including artists Adele, Enya, Bob Marley, Beyoncé, and Nat King Cole — designed to reduce the anxiety associated with a fear of flying when listened to before and during a flight.
