PITTSFIELD — The 1826 round stone barn at Hancock Shaker Village is the centerpiece of this outdoor living history museum and center for the study of the Shakers, a religious and cultural group that formed a utopian society beginning in the late 1700s. The fully restored village includes 18 historic buildings, medicinal and vegetable gardens, Shaker furniture and crafts, heritage breed farm animals, and hiking trails. This season the village is offering “Choose Your Own Shaker Adventure” tours, in which participants select a topic and date, and the village staff designs a customized 35- to 40-minute tour. Topics include spirituality, architecture, song and dance, cooking, medicine, furniture, inventions, sustainability, social justice, animals, and children in a celibate society. Visitors can expand their experience by adding themes. It’s a good option for families, since each family member can select a favorite topic to share with the others, says Laura Wolf, director of operations and marketing.

HANCOCK SHAKER VILLAGE Adults $18, ages 13-17 $8, 12 and under free. Shaker Adventure Tours from $28 (includes general admission), through Oct. 27. 1843 West Housatonic St., Pittsfield. 413-443-0188, 800-817-1137, ext. 100, www.hancockshakervillage.org
