MENFI, Sicily — There is something quite wonderful about staying at a vineyard. The vines outside your door may have been there for hundreds of years. At Planeta Estate winery in Menfi in Sicily, one of several locations the winery owns around the island, the stunning property includes guest rooms with the finest linens and furnishings, and the stylish restaurant La Foresteria. While you dine at a long community table, watch chef Angelo Pumilia in the glassed-in kitchen turning out Sicilian classics such as arancini, the popular deep-fried rice balls made with risotto, or traditional caponata, a relish of eggplant, tomatoes, and peppers, which he learned from his mother. Fourteen rooms, $186-$358, includes breakfast.
