CAPE ELIZABETH — Guests who visit the Inn by the Sea can enjoy an in-room massage, gourmet meals, a plush, comfy bed, happy hour, and a treat with turndown service.

Their owners will have a good time too.

Doggies will find much to wag their tails about at this luxurious, 61-room property. Pet-pampering amenities include L. L. Bean dog blankets, beach towels, and handmade goodies. Canines can share a designated pet-friendly room with their people at no extra charge, and can join them for dinner outdoors (in summertime) or indoors in the fireplace lounge. Just outside the inn is a boardwalk and trail that runs parallel to Crescent Beach and the Atlantic. (The beach is closed to dogs from mid-April-Oct. for piping plovers.) Across the street, a woodsy trail loops around Great Pond.

Even if you come without Fido, you’ll have a good time. The newly renovated inn — recently voted one of the top 20 resorts in the Northeast by Condé Nast Traveler— offers modern, unfussy rooms (some with wonderful ocean views) and nice touches like L’Occitane bath products.

On-site, there’s a silver LEED-certified spa, and a restaurant that is so good the locals dine there. Chef Mitchell Kaldrovich lures diners to Sea Glass with a farm-to-fork menu, including species of underused but delicious fish from the Gulf of Maine. All this, and Portland is just 7 miles away. Guest rooms from $229.
