Ride to the country’s only certified Trappist beer brewery, visit two wineries, and explore picturesque Central Massachusetts towns and farmland on the Mass BikePike Tour, Aug. 7-10. This annual ride takes participants through Harvard, Oxford, and West Brookfield, with overnight stays in Whitinsville, Hardwick, and Winchendon. Ride from 30 to 70 miles a day, with shorter options for newer cyclists. Extra excursions include a chance to climb around Purgatory Chasm in Sutton or attend a minor league baseball game or country fair. A new passenger ferry will start making daily round- trip crossings between Portland, Maine, and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, starting May 15, but you can reserve now. EXHIBIT COMMEMORATES ALASKA EARTHQUAKE

A record 9.2 magnitude earthquake shook Alaska in 1964, claiming 128 lives statewide and causing widespread devastation in the city of Valdez. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of this event, the Valdez Museum has unveiled a permanent exhibition, “A Moving Experience: A Look Back at the Good Friday Earthquake,” which includes photographs and artifacts from the museum’s collection, such as an old credit card machine with a card still in it, abandoned by a woman as she evacuated town. A new temporary exhibition, “Communities, Disaster and Change,” features artwork by 28 Alaskan artists and will be on display from May through September. Learn how the quake shaped Alaska.
