CHICAGO — While most of us look for ways to avoid layovers, lovers of fashion and clearance sales may want to rethink that strategy if it means a stop in the Windy City. The Fashion Outlets of Chicago, a 530,000-square-foot, high-end outlet mall just two miles from O’Hare International Airport, has more than 130 outlet stores, including Barneys, Prada, Gucci, Tory Burch, and Neiman Marcus.

Hoping to attract O’Hare’s 76 million annual travelers, Fashion Outlets offers a frequent shuttle service to and from the airport with transportation partner Go Airport Express. A first of its kind TSA-certified concierge service, operated by BAGS, Inc., assists travelers (for a nominal fee) in printing boarding passes and checking their luggage and shopping bags directly onto their flights.

Anchored by luxury retailers such as Saks Fifth Avenue’s Off 5th, Last Call by Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdale’s the Outlet Store, Fashion Outlets is the first fully-enclosed, multilevel mall of this caliber to open in Chicago in two decades.

FASHION OUTLETS OF CHICAGO Mon-Sat 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Sun till 7, 5220 Fashion Outlets Way, Rosemount, Ill., www.fashionoutletsofchicago.com
