Maria Menounos says Greece is fun

Medford native Maria Menounos, who turns 36 Sunday, is a busy woman. She recently left her cohosting gig at “Extra” and will be hosting a new show, “Untold With Maria Menounos,” on the E! Network. The Emerson College grad produces and stars in a reality show, “Chasing Maria Menounos,” on Oxygen, and has just penned her second book, “The EveryGirl’s Guide to Diet and Fitness,” a
follow-up to her 2011 New York Times bestseller, “The EveryGirl’s Guide to Life.” Menounos, who lives in Los Angeles with her longtime boyfriend, Keven Undergaro, will be in Boston Saturday at the Health and Fitness Expo at the Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at the CambridgeSide Galleria from 3 to 6 p.m. to sign copies of her new book — a must read, she said, for women who want to improve their physical health.

We caught up with Menounos to talk about all things travel.

Favorite vacation spot? Boston and Greece. Greece is the most beautiful place in the world [on Mykonos, right], and Greek people just want to have fun, so when you go there, you’re sucked into this vortex of fun, and it’s just an amazing, amazing time! And Boston . . . it’s my home. I love the food, the people . . . and I’m looking forward to getting there this summer.

Favorite food or drink while vacationing? Bud Light and anything that represents the culture of the place I’m visiting.

Where would you like to travel to but haven’t? There are too many places to list. I love traveling and learning about other societies and cultures.

One item you can’t leave home without when traveling? Headphones and an iPad loaded with my favorite podcasts and books.

Aisle or window? I prefer the window seat because I like to sleep against it on flights. I also like looking outside. The only bad part is you have to climb over people to get to the bathroom, but I have a pretty strong bladder, so it’s not that bad.

Favorite childhood travel memory? My dad was a janitor at nightclubs all over Boston and we all — my mother, my brother, and me — helped him. We would find loose change on the floor and my dad cut a little sliver in a helium tank so we could put money in, but not take it out. When I was 10, we had saved enough money to go to Greece. It was amazing.

Guilty pleasure when traveling? Cocktails when I’m flying. It’s the best way to celebrate the journey!

Best travel tip? I mention some of my best travel tips in my first book, “The EveryGirl’s Guide to Life,” but if you’re a TV junkie, go to iTunes and download an AfterbuzzTV [an online broadcast network created by Menounos and Undergaro, where actors and others discuss the making of their shows, their story lines, etc.] after-show of your favorite series.
