Tips for a visit to the Indianapolis Zoo

The animals are in specific biomes or environments, divided into deserts, oceans, plains, forests, aviaries, and the International Orangutan Center. Give yourself enough time to take it all in.

Check for hours and admission prices. Admission varies each day, depending on the volume of visitors expected. You can purchase tickets online ahead of your visit.

Consider a Total Adventure Package to cover all admission costs at the zoo or buy a set of 10 tickets that will get you on the rides (train, carousel, Skyline, roller coaster) and admitted to the 4-D theater and certain other events, such as hand-feeding the giraffes or lorikeets.

The dolphin shows are included in the price of regular admission, but a special ticket must be obtained at the front gate. The International Orangutan Center, the splash park and the shark touch pool are also included in the admission cost.

Also included in the admission price are numerous chats and feedings by zookeepers, with a variety of animals; a trained dog show; and a “flamingo mingle,” with the birds walking among visitors. Schedules are at the gate.
