HER PERFECT DATE Includes something active, not too long a drive, good food, a balance between relaxed and busy

Chef and accountant

HE’S HAPPIEST In the kitchen — cooking is my stress release, so I end up doing a good bit of it.

HIS PERFECT DATE Something a little more dynamic than dinner and a movie.

SAM All I really had time to do was to brush my teeth, organize my things, and quickly call my mom.

ANDREW I trimmed my beard for the occasion.

SAM Just before meeting Andrew I felt a bit nervous. After the host took my coat, he led me upstairs and straight to Andrew, who introduced himself and gave me a hug. He was tall, dark, and handsome, with a really warm smile and pretty eyes.

ANDREW I’m into brunettes, so that was a plus. She was cute and wholesome-looking, which is a refreshing change of pace.

ANDREW She’s a vegetarian, which made the choices easy. We split the roasted artichoke appetizer, which was really well prepared.

SAM For my entree, I had a pasta dish with exotic foraged mushrooms. What stuck out the most [in conversation] was our shared interest in food, cooking, and bands.

ANDREW It seems like she’s traveled to all the places I want to visit, and vice versa.

SAM It was easy to talk to Andrew.

ANDREW Physically, she seemed pretty attractive. Personality-wise, I had to revise my first impression from “nice girl” to “interesting girl” — a big step up.

SAM I thought he was attractive when I met him. I enjoyed his company throughout the evening, and I genuinely liked learning about him.

ANDREW At one point, she was talking about how bizarre her life was, and she seemed pretty pleased by it. There are too few people who can face tough situations with a sense of adventure, and that’s the impression I got from Sam.

SAM There wasn’t really one point in the evening that stands out. I just continued to like him.

SAM Andrew offered to walk me to the Green Line. I was glad we could continue chatting outside of the restaurant, because I felt like we still had a bit more to talk about before the end of our date.

ANDREW We talked about high heels and gym etiquette.

SAM I asked for his number. We hugged and agreed to make plans.

ANDREW I think so. After all, I still have to try her vegan banana bread.
