 > A FEW OLD TRICKS

TERRY [Before the date], I got my hair styled. It needs control sometimes.

EVAN I read, showered, and shaved.

TERRY I did a couple of deep breaths while driving to the restaurant. It helps to keep me calm.

EVAN I felt totally at peace.

TERRY Evan was waiting in the lobby when I came in. He presented me with a bouquet of flowers. I was impressed!

EVAN I was very impressed. The insides matter to me the most. Gorgeous.

TERRY He asked if he could take my coat to hang — a nice gentlemanly gesture.

 > THROW ME A BONE

TERRY As we were waiting for our drinks, we talked about our careers and how similar we are with our passion to help people. He seemed to talk a lot at first about his life as if he were on a speed date. But he was a good listener.

EVAN We had so many things in common: antiquing, travel, dance, location, and especially our dogs.

TERRY The best part was finding out he was a dog owner. We both had pictures of our dogs on our cellphones to show.

 > A WALK IN THE PARK

EVAN I was fantastically comfortable, and the feeling stayed the same throughout the date.

TERRY I ordered lasagna, and Evan ordered spaghetti and meatballs. The food tasted great.

EVAN I felt sparks the entire time.

TERRY We were both so busy talking that we didn’t get through our dinners, so we asked for doggie bags to go.

EVAN I really wanted to stay much longer; I loved being with her.

TERRY Evan asked if we could get together for a second date, maybe walking our pooches somewhere nice. I said yes. He was a gentleman and a nice guy. That’s important to me.

 > RAINING CATS AND ...

TERRY He walked me to my car while holding an umbrella over us because it was still raining out.

EVAN We will get together again.

TERRY No kiss or hug because it was too wet out. I’m a fair-weather kisser.

EVAN A real gentleman (especially in the rain) says, “Good night and thank you for such a lovely time.”
