Dance, theater, and storytelling performances, live music from jazz to roots, art demos and activities, a crafts bazaar, food, and more are part of the 33d Cambridge River Festival, from noon to 6 p.m. along the Charles River between JFK Street and Western Avenue. COSTUMED CAMBRIDGE

Tour guides in Colonial garb are part of the scenery in downtown Boston. Now Cambridge is getting in on the act with guides portraying real locals from the Victorian era (Fanny Appleton, wife of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, for one). Starting Saturday, Cambridge Historical Tours leads six daily walking tours of such sites as Cambridge Common, Harvard Yard, the Old Cambridge Burial Ground, and the Lampoon castle. Tours meet in Harvard Square. “Just look for the man in the top hat,” says Daniel Berger-Jones, an actor and BU grad who cofounded the company.
