WHEN HE’S HAPPIEST When I have no work to do, or when I wake up after eight hours of sleep

HIS PERFECT SATURDAY Randomly picking a location and driving to it. It’s more about the drive than the location itself that I like.

8 P.M. BISTRO DU MIDI, BACK BAY

> SETTING SAIL

BRYAN I went home to get dressed for the date. I didn’t have any shirts to wear, so I rushed to the mall.

LAUREN I was strangely calm, with the mind-set of just making a friend.

BRYAN I was lost for a while trying to find the restaurant, but I got there [early].

LAUREN My iPhone sent me to the wrong location several times, which got me extremely flustered.

> FIRST STOP

BRYAN She was extremely attractive, with slightly curled hair, great arms, and was extremely fit.

LAUREN He was shorter than I’m used to. He introduced himself as Lauren, so I knew he was a little nervous.

BRYAN She was totally at ease, even though she had a tough time getting there.

LAUREN We talked about a lot of things, had a lot in common.

BRYAN I was slightly wary when she said that she wanted to become a lawyer, but she wanted to do something with the environment and protecting people from industrial waste. Even though I don’t trust most lawyers, I thought that was completely honorable.

> COMMON GROUND

BRYAN She was honest and genuine.

LAUREN I felt comfortable because I viewed him as a potential friend.

BRYAN We both like a good-quality beer. Of course, this piqued my interest.

LAUREN I knew he wasn’t for me when I realized he didn’t like to go out. He seemed to be more of a homebody.

> DISEMBARK

LAUREN The Public Garden was across from the restaurant, so we decided to stroll. After we circled the park and I was sure he wasn’t for me, I decided the date needed to end.

BRYAN I think it was around 10:30 that we said goodbye. There weren’t any sparks, but the potential was there. Maybe on another date.

LAUREN He was a great date, but not a great love match.

BRYAN We exchanged numbers with the hope that we could see each other again.

> POST-MORTEM

BRYAN Definitely an A+

LAUREN B

> ANOTHER DATE?

BRYAN I’d definitely go on another date with her, since she’s interesting, attractive, driven.

LAUREN No. He will be a great boyfriend to someone else.
