LAST BOOK SHE READ Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster. Heavy topic, but I found myself obsessed with learning more.

WHEN SHE’S HAPPIEST Hanging outside with my friends on a beautiful summer day

LUKE MANLEY > 28

Program Associate

LAST BOOK HE READ A World on Fire, about the British involvement in the US Civil War. It may sound boring, but it’s actually really fascinating.

WHAT HIS EXES LOVED My self-awareness; recognizing how what I say and do affects other people

8 P.M. PANZA, NORTH END

> NOW BOARDING

KIM I went to a yoga class that ended at 7:15, so I just had time to quickly shower and run out the door.

LUKE I made sure to have a beer beforehand in order to mellow out a bit.

KIM I did not have high expectations for this date. If I can’t find a great guy in Boston, how is the Globe going to find one for me?

LUKE I was actually about an hour early, knowing North End parking would be a nightmare. She was a bit late, but fashionably so.

> TAKEOFF

KIM Luke was cute, with nice eyes, and he was even quite tall.

LUKE I thought she was quite attractive.

KIM I liked that he had dressed up for the date by wearing a tie, although perhaps he was dressed that way from work.

LUKE With her blond curls, I immediately pictured Marilyn Monroe.

> SMOOTH RIDE

KIM We discovered that we both like to travel and have been all over the world, so we traded stories. He had me beat with his amazing tales of traveling to volatile places like Afghanistan, Syria, and Libya.

LUKE She had basically been to all the places I had yet to visit, and vice versa.

KIM I grew up on a farm in rural South Dakota hunting and fishing, while Luke has spent a lot of time in rural Maine, so he’s done his share of hunting, too. I quickly realized that Luke is not your cookie-cutter Bostonian. He didn’t even mention the Red Sox once!

LUKE When I found out how much she liked to read and the impressive types of literature she enjoyed, my interest skyrocketed.

KIM Luke is smart, chivalrous, cultured, and seems like a genuinely good guy.

> LANDING

KIM It’s hard to tell from a first date, but there was definitely a hint of spark.

LUKE We had a really nice walk back to her apartment.

KIM I thought maybe he wanted to kiss me, but he didn’t make the move.

LUKE I’m a little old-fashioned that way.

> POST-MORTEM

KIM A

LUKE A-

> ANOTHER DATE?

KIM I’d go out with him again if he asked me.

LUKE I think we would have a great time doing some kind of activity-type date as opposed to just dinner.
